I made this mod on my LG Lightscribe optical DVD drive for the case I'm working on. For those on a VERY tight budget, you can always go for something like this.
All you'll need are: (pretending that this is a tutorial post hahaha)
- strips of illustration board
- a plastic folder
- scissors/utility knife
- some heavy duty glue, or Elmer's Glue would probably work
- your trusty Dremel
- Phillips screw driver
- spray paint
I wanted a different look to my dvd drive, wanted it to match the whole look of the case... so i started working on it.
Warranty? What warranty?
The operation begins... I think you all know what I plan to do.
And this is what the optical drive looks after a rotary tool cut, and a paint job... but I noticed that it's a bit exposed to dust. So.....
... I cut up the remaining textured plastic folder I bought from the bookstore for this, and strips of painted illustration board for the border of the plastic. Tightly glued them on and that's it!
I made it a point that it would still have the "see-through" effect that I wanted.
Here we can see the lens(sorry for the quality of the shot).
Never looked better.
