As I promised, some photos of the pieces painted with white lacquer.

In detail, the parts damaged in the accident with the spray gun ...

Most of them could recover with a good sanding and polishing, but others will have to be repainted.
As the weather here in Rio de Janeiro in the last 2 days was cloudy with occasional rain, I was unable to fix the paint. Now, I'm waiting for the Sun to show your face to make the repairs and corrections.

Its coming along. Those paint runs and sags will fix very easy. Make sure you get the paint cans warm before spraying the pieces. Hope your using Bulldog (Plastic paint promoter) on the plastic and non metal pieces like those rollers or you will not have paint on them very long. Good luck and keep the pics coming, its looking good so far

I'm painting with spray gun. I need to heat the paint too ?
The temperature here is around 25~30 degrees centigrade.

Here in Brazil, we don't have the Bulldog and the "Plastic paint promoter" is called Plastic sealant.
Yes, all the plastic parts received a good coat of sealant before painting.

Thank you for the tips and encouragement.

A sample of how this varying climate here in Rio de Janeiro due to a "cold front" (do not know the correct translation for this weather phenomenon) that hit the southeastern region of Brazil:

Monday, Sept 09.

Monday, a sunny holiday I couldn't do the painting because of the lunch with the family of my brother's bride.
Yesterday, there was no reason to stop painting, but the day was cloudy and rainny. I believe it's bad luck on my part.

Today, the day dawned a little better. Some clouds, weak sun, and fortunately, no rain.
After lunch I will try to paint and touch up the pieces.

I take the opportunity to post some pictures of what was done in the last days...

A lot of products ordered will not arrive on time and some changes had to be made in the project.

The adapters/heatsinks for the HD's is one of these parts and I need to get a solution for that.
Initially, I thought of making acrylic adapters with 3mm thick for each one of the 3 HD's.

For that, I cut three pieces of acrylic and made the required markings.

Then I fixed the piece on the workbench and used the heat gun to make the folds.

With ready piece, secured a old HD and did some testing ...
The board of 3mm is not solid enough to resist to the weight and vibration. I lost time and material in this attempt.

I hope that the parts arrive in time to be used in the final version of the project for entry the contest.

While I do not confirm a new waterblock for the project, I'm preparing a new cover for the good old DTEK TC4 that belonged to the SOLAR STORM.

Image

I cut a piece of acrylic 10mm, made a mask and markings for the holes.

Image

Tomorrow, I'll take the acrylic piece to a metal workshop to make the holes with a drill press because with the hand drill is impossible to make them perfect.

After the disappointment with the acrylic support for HD, I was discouraged thinking about having to use original HD cage of the case.
It must be said that the cage is well designed and perfectly fulfilled its function, but it is ugly and too big.

As I searched the cage, I literally stumbled on my solution.
Seriously, I stumbled on a piece of aluminum that one time served to hold a truck bed cover. The truck was sold a few years ago, but this piece of aluminum was lost here at home.

Image

When I picked up the aluminum piece, cursing and thinking of throwing it away, I realized that had the shape and size suitable for manufacturing the support.
I ran to cut a piece and test the solution on my old HD ...

Image

Well, the measure is exactly what I needed ... just make holes and screw the HD!

Image
Image

But not everything is perfect, the piece is too high.
Compared with a DVD drive, you can see that I need to cut the upper part of the piece.

Image
Image

After cut, sanded and polished all 12 pieces, I come back to talk about it ...

Oh, yes !
Not only new parts, and large investments in outsourced services that come out good casemod projects.
Recycling is essential to prove for beginners that they can make their projects at home using parts that are lost inside your drawers and closets.
Thanks !
