Reserving a Spot.

I started this project four months ago. I had an idea about a custom computer case with high performance and superior liquid cooling. Where I put the radiators in front, instead of stuffing them into a case. I wanted to go big. Here are some pics of the 3D model in Sketch-up.

From the beginning I wanted to get sponsored. I wanted to see how the process worked. Since I work at AMD, I had an advantage. I got to talk to the marketing department and learned what was needed. I came up with a game plan and wrote out a proposal. This process took a long time, a lot longer than I thought. I took my time and researched on writing a proposal. Got the website up and running at http://www.templeoffusion.com. And it paid off, big time. I got sponsored by two companies. The first being AMD, for the computer part of the build. The second, EK Water Blocks, for the liquid cooling part of the project.

Now the sponsoring part is over, time to start building. I started out by laying out the base.
Image

Then got the walls of the Temple cut out. This case is going to be huge. But I like to say, “Go big, or go home.”

I will use this thread as my worklog. I will try to updated it every week with my progress.

I didn't get too much done this week, besides running to and from the store. For the wood working I got some new toys, I mean tools :) I got a cordless planer and circular saw. This made my life a little easier.

Got the case sides all lined up and level.

Used some clamps and the sander to even things out.

This project should be blossoming soon. I just got the EK CoolStream radiators yesterday. Should be able to get the radiators and temple up this weekend. And hopefully get the top of the base cut out. Will post an update this weekend.

From Slovenia, With Love - 8/1/2010

I got my first package from Slovenia, and like James Bond, I get all the high tech toys. EK sent me two of their CoolStream RAD XT 480 radiators. These radiators are great quality, and are going to make the obelisks look great. Here are some pics.

I love seeing the copper.

When using the belt sander, somehow I got the cord jammed into the 6” circular part of the combo sander. Can see the aftermath.

Image

I cannot call myself a “modder,” if I cannot fix a simple problem like this, so I ran down to Ace to pick some parts. I quickly took the sander apart, and got it fixed.

It is all fixed, and working great.

I got 98% of the pieces cut out for the project. Now I just have to get it all put together. I cannot wait for the next weekend. Here is a pic of all the pieces.

Thanks Jolly-Swagman. I just order the HAF X case to be a donor for this project. Also I got to order the brass sheeting for the top of the temple and the obelisks. Next weekend is going to be fun setting up the obelisks and temple.

Feeling a Little Sick - 8/8/2010

I didn't get too much done this week. I am feeling 'under the weather,' so I took it easy. The only work that I got done was getting the radiator brackets and sides all finished. Got the screw holes counter-sink and the sides cut outed. Hopefully I will get it put up next weekend.

Image

Also I got my parts case in this week. It is a Cooler Master HAF X. I got if for the back panel and all the drive bays. Here are some pics.

Well I got my package early :D, so making the special post today.

In the mail, I got my DDR3-2133 8gb (2 x 4gb) OCZ Flex Memory. See the pics below.

One thing I noticed that is said PC3 15000, which is 1866MHz. However, it clearly has 2133 in the product info, and on OCZ website, it states PC3-17000. I have to call OCZ to get this straighten out. Hopefully it just a misprint, but I should have the right data rate on my freaking top of the line memory sticks.

I called OCZ today. The said it was just a misprint of their labels. They are not going to do anything to fix it. No really a big deal, just hate paying for top of the line stuff, only to see a glaring misprint. Oh well. Here is a pic of the label up close.

The Temple has Arisen - 8/14/2010

Since I was sick last week, I had a lot of work to catch up on. I first started on getting the radiator supports finally done. I counter sinked the screw holes and got the sides on. They are looking good.

Next I worked on getting the Temple put together. I had to make some notches at the bottom so the tubes for the liquid cooling can run to the reservoirs ans radiators.

Image
Image

Once the notches were taken care of, I put the Temple together. This thing is going to be huge.

Image
Image

Then the last piece that I worked on today was the top. Got it all put together. All the screws counter sinked.

Image

Here are some end of the day pics. This case is going to be awesome!!!
