After the succes of my mini-project Hovermax (fan mod for Enermax) I got the irresistible urge to make a complete mod with the same look-n-feel.
The inspiration for Hovermax and this mod I got from the F117 - Nighthawk
Image
to mod a case from the swedish Fractal Design company http://fractal-design.com/ to give it a whole new look.

For the specs of this case, I can point you to the log of my collegue Jos a.k.a. Agressions, who just so happens to have started a mod with the same case.
I made in SketchUp a few rough designs and showed them to the guys at Fractal Design. They were unanimous to pick this one;

The guys at Fractal Design liked the first sketches, so lets start modding !
Image
Started with disassembling the case and also applying the first cut lines.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Nice doors that hold the dust filters....
Image
..but i'm not using these in my design, I need a solid front. Sorry guys !
Image
BTW; this front/top panel is very nice !
Image
But it s also NOT included in my design hehehe
Image
Very nice multifunctional switch ( would be a waste NOT to use it right ? )
Image
Image
The chassis underneath the front needs to be cut in the same way.

Sawed the frontpanel.
Image

Mounted both sidepanels.
Image

To determine the right lines; this measurement from the sidepanel to midpoint.
Image

Transferred to the X-axis.
Image

And the Y-axis.
Image

Gives a nice 45 degree angled line.
Image

This line goes in the middle of that 45 degree line.
Image

And here I made a mistake, I toke the middle of the sidepanel as reference.
Image

Which looked like this.
Image

But in the end I choose for the original mobo-chassis, which you can see here.
Image

Here ones more the wrong and the right line.
Image

Cutted.
Image

And mounted back to the case.

To give you a better insight, here a paint-preview :)
Image

These are the lines of the black sheets of Forex hardfoam and the transparant polystyreen.
Image

There all triangles.
Image

This would represent some sort of a F117 cockpit look.

Here is my latest toy. :)
Image

Anyway, I riveted the motherboard back to the case.
Image

Now what motherboard will we choose for this mod... this one is from the FiFo mod, but its way too big.
Image

This Asus P5KPL mobo, is a lot smaller.
Image

Or this Sapphire moederbord ( Here with a Spire cooler still on it.)
Image

But thanks to my friends at Gigabyte I'm getting a Core I5 GA-P55A-UD5 mobo.
Image

And the people at Coolermaster provided me with a fat V10 !
Image

On the last pix it looked like the boards wont fit, but I measurered it;
Image

And enlarged. It fits, but only JUST. ( pfffewww lucky me )
Image

The sawed off front ....
Image

This is where the first Forex plate is coming.

Showing off my new sawmachine.
Image
Guide Aiming Laser FTW!
Image
Im building the case up from the rear to the front.
Image
Piece of cardboard to test my idea
Image
Then reproduced it in Forex.
Image
As added bonus I gave this edge a 45 degree bevel.
Image
Using black construction kit, I added the first piece to the case, After it hardened, i noticed that the strength was coming back to the case. Just

like i planned it would.
Image
Now I can determine the exact measuerments for the second piece.
Image
Three lengths, Three angles, One plate of Forex.Image
And there it is.
Image
The second piece is added.
Image

You guys still with me ? youre almost up to speed with the rest now :)

Been very busy with my new job (was unemployed for a year) and have to work overtime too. In the evenings I dont have much time or energy

left to do a lot of modding. Gradually it goes a bit better, so here is a update.
During the build I found that the "nose" was going to give me trouble if I didnt modify it.
Image

First in regular paper to see what I needed.
Image

Then made it from Forex hardfoam plate.
Image

From the inside it looks like a weld.
Image

Last triangle piece with the edges bare for the construction kit, mid piece I wil remove after the spraypaint.
Image

Looking through the plexi.
Image

I will smoothen out all the edges.
Image
